Transport zones dictate which hosts and VMs can participate in the use of a particular network. The Overlay Transport zone is used for internal NSX-T Data Center tunneling between transport nodes. NSX Edges and host transport nodes use VLAN transport zones for uplinks which are external to the NSX-T Data Center.
This deployment example uses the following transport zones:
Name | Switch name | Traffic type |
Edge-Overlay-TZ | NSX-VDS | Overlay |
Host-VLAN-TZ | NSX-VDS | VLAN |
To create the transport zones:
- In the NSX Manager UI, select System > Fabric > Transport Zones.
- Click ADD.
- Enter the Name, Switch Name, and Traffic Type for the first transport zone as mentioned in the Other Distributed Port Groups Configuration Details table.
- Click the ADD button.
- Repeat steps 2 and 4 in this section for the remaining transport zone mentioned in the Other Distributed Port Groups Configuration Details table. When complete, the Transport Zonespage displays.
