Determine an IP address on the vCenter server network, a hostname for the OMNI VM, and add forward and reverse lookups records to the DNS server, if you have not already done so. The values used are from the planning data in Table 1. In this example, the hostname is omni.dell.lab, the address is 192.168.11.3/24, and the gateway is 192.168.11.254.
You must also determine an IP address for OMNI on the OOB management network. In this example, the IP address is 100.67.128.56/24.
To configure OMNI, perform the following steps.
- In the vSphere Client, power on the OMNI VM and launch the console.
- Log in with the default OMNI VM username, admin, and password, admin. The first time you log in, follow the prompts to change the admin password. The OMNI menu displays.
- Select 0. Full setup. The Network Manager terminal user interface ( TUI) shows.Note: In the TUI, use the Tab and Arrow keys to navigate and the Enter key to select.
- Select Edit a connection. The OMNI VM has two integrated network connections, named Wired connection 1 (ens160) and Wired connection 2 (ens192), mapped in this deployment as shown in Services host connection details for OMNI VM.
- Wired connection 1 is connected to the in-band Management network and is used for communication with the vCenter server after deployment.
- Wired connection 2 is connected to the OOB Management network and is used for SmartFabric switch configuration.
- Select Wired connection 1.
- In the Edit Connection window, select the following options:
- Provide a user-friendly profile name, such as vCenter Server Network. Note: The Device field is automatically populated with a MAC address and (ens160).
- Set IPv4 Configuration to Manual.
- Next to IPv4 Configuration, select Show to expand the additional fields. Note: Select Add next to each field to enter the values.
- Enter the OMNI IP Address/prefix, Gateway, DNS server, and Search domain used on the vCenter server network.
- Set IPv6 Configuration to Ignore.
Default values are used for the remaining settings. When complete, the Edit Connection screen displays as shown in figure below.
- Provide a user-friendly profile name, such as vCenter Server Network.
- Select OK. The Ethernet connections list displays.
- Select Wired connection 2.
- In the Edit Connection window, make the following settings:
- Provide a user-friendly profile name, such as OOB Mgmt. Note: The Device field is automatically populated with a MAC address and (ens192).
- Set IPv4 Configuration to Manual.
- Next to IPv4 Configuration, select Show to expand the additional fields. Note: Select Add next to each field as required to enter the values.
- Enter the OMNI IP Address/prefix on the OOB Management network. Note: A gateway is not used here because a gateway is configured on the vCenter server connection. If routing is used on your OOB management network, next to Routing, select Edit, and configure routes as needed for your network. OMNI must reach the SmartFabric IP address on the OOB management network.
- Set IPv6 Configuration to Ignore.
Default values are used for the remaining settings. When complete, the Edit Connection window looks like the figure below.
- Provide a user-friendly profile name, such as OOB Mgmt.
- Select OK > Back to return to the Network Manager TUI menu.
- On the Network Manager TUI menu, select Activate a connection. The OMNI activation screen displays, as shown.Note: When active, connection names have an asterisk (*) next to them.
- Deactivate both Ethernet connections as follows:
- Under Ethernet (ens160), select vCenter Server Network > Deactivate.
- Under Ethernet (ens192), select OOB Mgmt> Deactivate.
Note: Ignore the Veth connections.
- Activate both connections as follows:
- Under Ethernet (ens160), select vCenter Server Network > Activate.
- Under Ethernet (ens192), select OOB Mgmt > Activate.
- Select Back to return to the Network Manager TUI menu.
- On the Network Manager TUImenu, select Set system hostname.
- Change the Hostname from its default setting to the new hostname, omni.dell.lab, in this example.
- Click OK > OK > Quit. OMNI services are started and the NTP Server IP/Hostname: prompt displays.
- At the prompt, specify the NTP server, ntp.dell.lab in this example. Note: If an NTP server is not used, press Enter to skip.
- From the Install SSL Certificates from remote server [y]? prompt, enter n as shown in the figure below. Note: OMNI certificate installation is outside the scope of this guide. Certificates can be imported later by selecting 4. Password/SSL configuration menu from the OMNI Menu. Follow the instructions provided in OpenManage Network Integration for SmartFabric Services User Guide, Release 3.0. The guide is available on the Dell OpenManage Network Integration website.
- Press Enter to return to the OMNI menu.
- From the OMNI menu, select 8. Logout.
