In this chapter, the networks in the table below are configured on the SmartFabric switches.
VLAN ID | Description | Network ID | Network name | Network IP address | Gateway |
11 | Management | mgmt-11 | mgmt | 192.168.11.0/24 | 192.168.11.254 |
12 | vMotion | vmotion-12 | vmotion | 192.168.12.0/24 | None |
13 | vSAN | vsan-13 | vsan | 192.168.13.0/24 | 192.168.13.254 |
20 | VM Data | vmdata-20 | vmdata | 192.168.20.0/24 | 192.168.20.254 |
The management, vMotion, and vSAN networks are required for this deployment. Other networks such as VM Data are optional.
Since these networks are all virtual networks, the same networks are configured at both sites. Traffic on these networks is Layer 2 encapsulated in Layer 3 packets using VXLAN. The gateways are not used for nodes on the same network, even if one node is in Site 1 and the other is in Site 2.
The gateways are required for communicating with hosts on other networks. The Management and vSAN gateways are required for communication with the witness host, which is on different networks (192.168.31.0 for management and 192.168.33.0 for vSAN in this deployment).
The VM Data network gateway is optional if VMs will only be communicating with other VMs on that network. If the VMs on the VM Data network need to reach other networks, a gateway must be provided.
