NVMe provides superior performance to SCSI in devices such as servers and high-performance storage arrays. NVMe over TCP (NVMe/TCP) uses an Ethernet infrastructure, without the need for specialized network switches or Host Bus Adapters (HBAs). This is more cost effective when compared with an FC storage network. Since an Ethernet network is used, higher bandwidth such as 100 Gb can be leveraged. Compared to FC, the price for Ethernet hardware is also lower, which provides a significant advantage.
By adopting a standards-based approach to NVMe/TCP, customers can run NVMe/TCP over a standard Ethernet-based infrastructure without the need to configure lossless behavior from end-to-end, as required when using RoCE.
