Manual discovery, registration, and verification of ESXi

In this step, the hosts request the details of the PowerStore DDCs from the SFSS CDC. In VMware vSphere 8.0, the Centralized Discovery Controllers are automatically discovered using mDNS. If the steps shown in ESXi CLI commands for NVMe/TCP are complete, the SFSS NQN appears as a controller under the NVMe/TCP Storage Adapter. For vSphere 7.0, or if the NVMe/TCP vmk and CDC are in different subnets. Repeat the steps in this section for each ESXi host. Alternatively, this step can be done using the CLI using the following command: esxcli nvme fabrics discover -a vmhba[id] -i [CDC IP] -p 8009 -c -r.
To connect and register the storage adapters with the CDC using the vSphere Client, follow the steps below:
Log in to the vSphere web client.
Select Hosts and clusters.
Click to select the host. In this example, host esxi05 is selected.
Click Configure > Storage > Storage Adapters.
Click to select the vmhba64 adapter.
Note: This is a VMware NVMe over TCP Storage Adapter.
Select Controllers > ADD CONTROLLER.
In the Add controller dialog box, on the Automatically tab, enter the follow details:
In the IP field, enter the CDC instance IP address.
In vSphere 8.0, click to enable the Central Discovery Controller. In vSphere 7.0, click to enable the Root discovery controller box. This informs the host that it is connecting to a centralized discovery controller.
Port Number field, enter the port number. This example uses 8009.
Leave the Digest parameter options in the default, cleared state.
In vSphere 7.0, click the DISCOVER CONTROLLERS button. In vSphere 8.0, the Discover Controllers button is not available to click.
Note: The subsystem NQN is that of SFSS rather than that of a storage subsystem.
Click OK.
Repeat the above steps for each NVMe/TCP storage adapter on each host participating in IP SAN.
Note:
In ESXi 7.0, the Controllers list for each host will show No items found.
To verify all hosts are registered with each CDC:
Log in to the SFSS.
Click CDC INSTANCES and select 1 from the drop-down menu.
Click Endpoints > Host to see the list of hosts registered with CDC 1 with Type value of Implicit.
