After all warnings or errors are resolved, a Configure cluster box displays on the right side of the Quickstart window, as shown.
- In the Configure cluster box, click CONFIGURE.
- In the Distributed switches window, scroll down to the Physical adapters section and assign the vmnics connected to the leaf switches to the DSwitch. For this example, this is vmnic2 and vmnic3. All other settings on this page are left at their defaults, as shown. Note: DSwitch is the default name of the vDS used by the cluster. It may be changed here but is left at the default in this guide.
- Click NEXT.
- In the vMotion traffic window, make the settings as follows. Note: The IP address and VLAN information is from the planning data in Table 1.
- Check the Use VLAN box, and enter the vMotion VLAN, 12 in this example.
- Leave Protocol set to IPv4.
- Next to IP type, select Static IPs.
- Next to the first host, esx01.dell.lab, enter the IPv4 address and Subnet mask on the vMotion network, 192.168.12.101, 255.255.255.0 in this example. There is no gateway used on the vMotion network in this deployment.
- Click AUTOFILL. This automatically adds addresses and subnet masks for the remaining hosts in the cluster.
- Click NEXT.
- In the Storage traffic window, select the following options:
- Check the Use VLAN box, and enter the vSAN VLAN, 13 in this example.
- Leave Protocol set to IPv4.
- Next to IP type, select Static IPs.
- Next to the first host, esx01.dell.lab, enter the IPv4 address, Subnet mask, and Default gateway on the vSAN network, 192.168.13.101, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.13.254 in this example. Note: A gateway is used on the vSAN network because vSAN traffic must be able to reach the witness host.
- Click AUTOFILL. This adds the addresses and subnet masks for the remaining hosts in the cluster.
- Click NEXT.
- In the Advanced options window, scroll down to the vSAN options section and set the Deployment type to Stretched cluster. All other settings on this page are left at their defaults, as shown.
- Click NEXT.
- On the Claim disks page, claim one SSD disk for the Cache tier and one or more disks for the Capacity tier for each host. The number of disks and disk sizes claimed should be the same on all hosts.
- Click NEXT.
- Enter the Proxy settings for your network if applicable. This information is not used in this example.
- Click NEXT.
- In the Configure fault domains window, the hosts in Site 1, esx01.dell.lab-esx04.dell.lab, are kept in the Preferred domain and the hosts in Site 2, esx05.dell.lab-esx07.dell.lab, are moved to the Secondary domain, as shown. Note: Either site may be used as the preferred domain in your deployment.
- Click NEXT.
- In the Select witness host window, expand the vCenter and the Datacenter and select the witness host. A green Compatibility checks succeeded message displays, as shown. Note: If there is an issue, click the info button near the top of the window for witness host requirements.
- Click NEXT.
- On the Claim disks for witness host page, claim one SSD disk for the Cache tier and one or more disks for the Capacity tier.
- Click NEXT.
- Review the settings made. The summary for this deployment example is shown in the figures below.
- If you are satisfied with the settings, click FINISH. Configuration runs. The status shows in the Recent Tasks list at the bottom of the screen and in the Cluster Quickstart window.Note: For the deployment used in this guide, Quickstart configuration took about ten minutes.
When Quickstart configuration is complete, the vSphere client window will look similar to the following figure.
Note: The alarms shown on the host icons in the Inventory pane on the left are related to the deployment process. These alarms can be reset on the Summary tab for the cluster.
In the Configure hosts box on the right, a series of validation checks were automatically run during the configuration process. If all items are green or blue, skip the next section and go to the Run Skyline Health tests section.
Address any warnings or errors reported in the Configure Hosts box on the right by clicking the link provided for more information and a link to ASK VMWARE. The next section covers the Network error shown in the figure above.
