The Oracle RMAN agent in earlier versions was known as DD Boost for Oracle RMAN. The Oracle RMAN agent enables database servers to communicate with the Data Domain systems in an optimized way, without the need to use a backup application. The Oracle RMAN agent uses Application Direct workflows. The RMAN agent is installed on each database server. This agent contains the DD Boost libraries for communicating with the DD Boost server that runs on the Data Domain system. The Oracle RMAN agent enhances the performance and reduces the amount of data that is transferred over the LAN. Multiple database servers installed with the Oracle RMAN agent can use the same storage unit on a Data Domain system as a storage server.
