DD Boost Filesystem (BoostFS) provides a general file-system interface to the DD Boost library, allowing the standard backup applications to take advantage of the DD Boost features. BoostFS resides on the application server, offering a standard file system mount to the application. The application can take advantage of the storage and network efficiencies of the DD Boost protocol for backup and recovery with direct access to a BoostFS mount point. BoostFS deduplicates the data on the client and sends only the unique segments to the DD system. The BoostFS deployment is easy, allowing it to be up and running in a few minutes.
The advantages of BoostFS are:
The BoostFS workflow is similar to NFS, yet it improves backup times when compared to NFS and various other copy-based solutions. The BoostFS supports single-node data systems, high-availability (HA) systems, DD Virtual Edition, and extended distance protection.
