The basic configuration steps to adjust the Snapshot-based Incremental (Faster Incremental) Backup feature with PowerScale are below. This feature is enabled by default when PowerScale is the NAS client.
Basic configuration steps for a schedule policy:
From the CommCell Browser > Policies > Schedule Policies > right-click [Schedule Policy] > Edit > select [Schedule Name] > Edit button > Advanced button (near OK and Cancel buttons) > NAS Options tab
Backup from Snapshot: Yes
Click OK to Advanced Backup Options
Click OK to Backup Task Options
Click OK to [Schedule Policy]
Basic configuration steps for a specific manual backup job:
From the CommCell Browser > Client Computers > [PowerScale cluster] > NAS > defaultBackupSet > right-click [Subclient] > Backup > Advanced button (near OK and Cancel buttons) > NAS Options tab
Enable “Fast Incremental (Use Snapshot for Backup)” checkbox (default is enabled)
Click OK
Select the Backup Type and Schedule > click OK
To use the PowerScale feature, Commvault initiates a Level-based backup so the PowerScale cluster saves a snapshot from each level so Commvault can leverage snapshots for incremental and differential backups.
