The Commvault IntelliSnap integration with the PowerScale SnapshotIQ software module in OneFS enables single-interface management of PowerScale cluster snapshots with policy-based retention settings and individual file recovery. It does so while retaining many of the SnapshotIQ benefits, such as:
- Providing more granular snapshots at the directory level versus the volume level
- Removing the need to pre-allocate and consume capacity specifically to hold snapshot data
- Allowing client self-service to snapshot data through OneFS integrated Windows support for using the Previous Versions tab in file properties
- Supporting thousands of snapshots per PowerScale cluster
Snapshots provide the lowest RPO and RTO for quick local recovery and are often the preferred recovery method. Snapshots are also an important mechanism to protect data against malicious or accidental deletion and virus or malware attacks.
