The following diagram shows a two chassis deployment. The first deployment includes the MX8116n FEM with Z9432F-ON FSE solution in fabric A. The second deployment includes the traditional MX9116n FSE with MX7116n FEM solution in fabric B. Each solution is connected to a separate external network ToR pair of switches.
For each type of fabric solution, the restrictions on the number of chassis supported apply. For the MX8116n FEM with the Z9432F-ON FSE (with single fabric 100 GbE), the deployment is limited to 14 chassis. With the traditional MX9116n FSE with MX7116n FEM, the maximum number of chassis supported is 10 chassis. If a deployment has 14 chassis with the 100 GbE solution, only 10 of those chassis can also have the traditional MX9116n FSE and MX7116 FEM solution. The limits are based on the number of physical ports available to connect each FEM to the respective FSE for each solution to form a Scalable Fabric.
The maximum number of chassis supported in a Scalable Fabric for MX8116n based solutions can be seen in section PowerEdge Scalable Fabric Architecture .
The maximum number of chassis supported in a Scalable Fabric for MX9116n based solutions can be seen in the section Scalable Fabric Architecture.
Each individual chassis must only contain compute sleds with NICs at the same speed and number of ports.
