Network Partitioning (NPAR) is a standard feature on the MX platform and has served as a switch-independent feature for several releases. With the release of OME-M 2.10.00 and later versions, Advanced NPAR is now available in both SmartFabric and Full Switch modes.
Advanced NPAR is a switch-dependent feature that splits both the mezzanine card ports and the ethernet ports in the IOMs into logical partitions. These partitions on both the mezzanine card and the IOM can be treated as physical interfaces. The main advantage of Advanced NPAR is the ability to assign different VLANs to each partition. Previously, users could only assign a single VLAN to apply on all partitions on a mezzanine card physical port.
The Advanced NPAR feature is only supported on the 25 GbE based IOMs in the MX chassis. Advanced NPAR is not supported on the MX8116n FEM with Z9432F-ON FSE solution.
