Home > Storage > PowerMax and VMAX > Data Protection > Dell EMC PowerMax and VMAX All Flash: TimeFinder SnapVX Local Replication > Creating snapshots
TimeFinder SnapVX allows snapshots to be taken without the use of a target volume. The snapshots are made as efficient as possible by sharing point-in-time tracks, which are called snapshot deltas. The snapshot deltas are stored directly in the Storage Resource Pool (SRP) where the source volume resides. Each snapshot references the snapshot deltas appropriate for the specific point-in-time image.
SnapVX Snapshots are created with the symsnapvx establish command. As part of the establish command the user provides a name for the snapshot. The name has up to 32 characters and can contain letters, digits, dashes, and underscores. The name is not case-sensitive.
The following figure shows a volume with three targetless snapshots.
