The following principles are central to the design and architecture of the 3-Tier Platform:
The following management solutions are supported on the 3-Tier Platform:
Single system management uses one VMware vCenter Server to operate core applications for the management and workload domain on the 3-Tier Platform. Single system management uses Cisco ToR and management switches for network connectivity.
Multisystem management contains servers and shared storage that manage multiple 3-Tier Platforms in a data center. The 3-Tier Platform multisystem management solution uses Cisco ToR and management switches for network connectivity and supports up to 14 production domain VMware vCenter servers.
The following table shows the available configurations:
Table 94. 3-Tier Platform management configurations
Configuration | Storage array | Servers |
Single system management (integrated) | Dell Unity XT 480 | 2 to 16 Cisco UCS C220 M6 Servers with 256 GB or 512 GB RAM |
Dell Unity XT 480 with optical connectivity | 2 to 6 Cisco C220 M6 Servers with 256 GB or 512 GB RAM | |
Multisystem management (integrated) | Dell Unity XT 480 | 4 to 16 Cisco UCS C220 M6 Servers with 256 GB or 512 GB RAM |
Dell Unity XT 480 with optical connectivity | 4 to 6 Cisco UCS C220 M6 Servers with 256 GB or 512 GB RAM |
Note: Three servers are required to build the management solution when VMware vSphere HA and DRS are enabled on a cluster.
