This chapter describes the high-level design of Integrated Data Protection solutions for a 3-Tier platform.
Integrated Data Protection solutions provide backup systems and business continuity and disaster recovery services. The following table describes the functions that these solutions provide:
Function | Description |
Extended data protection and recovery | Replication throughout the day and roll-back to any time to minimize data loss and decrease restore times locally and to a remote site. Uses RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines. |
Synchronous replication of data to avoid downtime if there is an outage or maintenance is necessary. Uses VPLEX.
Migration of systems to another facility without downtime in response to, or in anticipation of, an outage. Uses VPLEX and VMware vSphere vMotion.
Backup systems | Point-in-time backups are available for various workloads, including VMware VMs, File Systems, Kubernetes clusters, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL databases, and Oracle databases. Additionally, SAP HANA databases, NAS shares, VMAX storage groups, and PowerStore block volumes are also supported. The backup system uses PowerProtect Data Manager and PowerProtect Data Domain for these operations. |
Data Protection Management | Management solutions provide reporting and analytics, enabling visibility into the effectiveness of the data protection strategy, as well as active application monitoring and management. The backup system uses Data Protection Advisor and Data Protection Central for these operations. |
