The Management solution enables applications to manage one or more 3-Tier Platforms.
Different types of application are available for deployment in single-system and multisystem management environments, as described in in the following table:
Application type | Contains |
Core |
|
Dell Technologies optional |
|
Ecosystem |
Ecosystem workloads require that more servers be added to the Management solution. |
The core applications contain the minimum required management software set to install and operate a 3-Tier Platform. The set includes hypervisor management, element managers, and virtual networking components such as VDS.
The following table shows the core application virtual machines:
Table 105. Core application virtual machines:
Virtual machine | Contains |
VMware vCenter Server | A VMware embedded Linux appliance to manage VMware vCSA. |
Element Manager Server | A Windows server to manage platform component management tools. |
Secure Connect Gateway Virtual Appliance A | An embedded Linux appliance to monitor 3-Tier platform storage arrays and SAN switches. |
Secure Connect Gateway Virtual Appliance B | |
PowerPath Licensing Appliance | An embedded Linux appliance to manage PowerPath License Manager. |
Cisco Intersight Connected Virtual Appliance, Cisco Intersight Private Virtual Appliance, or Cisco Intersight Assist VM | An embedded CentOS appliance to monitor and manage a Cisco UCS domain. |
The ecosystem management applications consist of management tools and certified software.
The following table describes the management role of each ecosystem application VM:

Virtual machine | Description |
VMware vCloud Director | An embedded Linux appliance to provide a single management control plane for heterogenous storage environments. |
Cisco UCS Director | An embedded Linux appliance to monitor and report details. |
Cisco UCS Central | An embedded Linux appliance to provide multisystem Cisco UCS management and provisioning. |
