The access pattern that Snowflake supports today traverses the AWS network backbone and exits to the public Internet to reach the on-premises ECS appliance. Thus, the ECS S3 endpoint must be publicly accessible.
Both Snowflake and ECS use Transport Security Protocol (TLS) 1.2 for in-transit data. All data traffic from the on-premises ECS to the Snowflake Data Cloud is encrypted using TLS, preventing vulnerable access points from cyberattacks.
