The following table lists general limitations on the use of S3-compatible object storage with Snowflake.
Feature | Description |
Storage integration | A storage integration is a Snowflake object that stores a generated identity and access management (IAM) entity for your external cloud storage. This functionality is only supported with AWS S3, Azure, or GCS integration, so simple storage access to S3-compatible object storage is used instead. |
Data manipulation | External tables are read-only; therefore, DML operations cannot be performed on them. However, external tables can be used for query and join operations. |
Auto-refresh | External table data must be manually refreshed. |
S3 notifications | S3 notifications are unsupported when using S3-compatible object storage because auto-ingest is required for pipe creation. |
