Dell Plug-in for Oracle Enterprise Manager (Oracle EM) enables database administrators to monitor the Dell PowerEdge servers, and PowerFlex in a database environment. It also supports mapping of databases to the Dell hardware for faster fault detection. Customers can also launch the respective management consoles like OpenManage Enterprise, PowerFlex Presentation Console to perform further troubleshooting, configuration, and management activities.
The Dell Plug-in for Oracle EM supports the following Dell devices:
The Dell Plug-in for Oracle EM installer (13.5.2.x.0_dell.em. xome_2000_0.opar) and open source licenses and attribution are packaged in the self- extracting 13.5.2.x.0_dell.em.xome_2000_0.zip file. Where 2 is the release and x is the patch level. Before installing this version of the plug-in, download the latest Dell Plug-in for Oracle EM documents from the Dell Technologies support page.
The Dell Plug-in for Oracle EM is an integral part of Oracle EM. The following diagram explains how the Oracle Management Server (OMS) and Oracle Management Agent (OMA) communicates with the Dell PowerEdge Servers and PowerFlex to collect and present information in the Oracle EM.
Figure 1. Architecture overview
Once the plug-in is deployed onto the OMS and OMA, user can add the targets, Dell OpenManage Enterprise, or PowerFlex Gateway, to Oracle EM. The plug-in communicates with the managed target to collect the metrics.
In the case of OpenManage Enterprise Target, a managed agent communicates with Dell OpenManage Enterprise server using REST API and pulls the Dell PowerEdge device metrics at regular intervals. The OMA pushes the collected metrics to the OMS which persist into the database. Similarly, if a PowerFlex Gateway target is added to Oracle EM, the OMA collects the SDC details and associated performance metrics and pushes it to the OMS allowing the details to be viewed Oracle EM console
In the case of Dell OpenManage Enterprise Target, the plug-in deployed on the agent will discover newly added or removed devices from the Dell OpenManage Enterprise. These discovered individual target devices can be promoted using the AutoDiscovery feature in Oracle EM for monitoring purposes.
