Document purpose

  • This deployment guide describes a method of configuring a five-node Dell EMC PowerFlex two-layer storage-only cluster with a pair of Dell EMC PowerEdge MX7000 chassis. In this configuration, each chassis contains two MX740c compute-only nodes, plus the necessary MX7000 networking components. Unlike a traditional PowerFlex two-layer configuration with external network switches, this deployment uses the embedded networking capabilities of the MX7000 chassis to provide network connectivity using the MX9116n Fabric Switching Engine (FSE) and MX7116n Fabric Expander Module (FEM). The engineering team used PowerFlex Manager for the installation and configuration of the PowerFlex storage-only nodes. A Dell EMC PowerEdge R640 server was used in place of the PowerFlex management appliance.
