If you do not use the ONIE-based automatic installation of an OS10 image and if a DHCP server is not available, you can manually install the image. Configure the Management port and the software image file to start the installation.
Manual installation using SCP, TFTP, or FTP server
- Save the OS10 software image on an SCP, TFTP, or FTP server.
- Power on the switch and select ONIE: Rescue for manual installation.
- Enter the onie-discovery-stop command to stop the DHCP discovery.
- Configure the IP addresses on the Management port, where x.x.x.x represents your internal IP address. After you configure the Management port, the response is up.
ifconfig eth0 x.x.x.x netmask 255.255.0.0 up
- Enter the onie-nos-install image_url command to install the software on the device. Note: The installation command accesses the OS10 software from the specified SCP, TFTP, or FTP URL, creates partitions, verifies installation, and reboots itself. The following is an example of the installation command:
ONIE:/ # onie-nos-install ftp://a.b.c.d/PKGS_OS10–Enterprise-x.x.xx.bin
Note: a.b.c.d represents the location to download the image file from, and x.x.xx represents the version number of the software to install.
Manual installation using USB drive
You can install the OS10 software image using a USB device. Verify that the USB device supports a FAT or EXT2 file system.
- Copy OS10 image file PKGS_OS10–Enterprise-x.x.xx.bin to USB storage device.
- Plug the USB storage device into the USB storage port on the switch.
- Power on the switch to automatically boot using the ONIE: Rescue option.
- Optionally, enter the onie-discovery-stop command to stop ONIE discovery if the device boots to ONIE: Install OS.
- Run the mkdir /mnt/media command to create a USB mount location on the system.
- Enter the fdisk -l command to identify the path to the USB drive.
- Run the mount -t vfat usb-drive-path /mnt/media command to mount the USB media plugged in the USB port on the device.
- Enter the onie-nos-install /mnt/media/image_file command to install the software from the USB, where /mnt/media specifies the path where the USB partition is mounted.
The ONIE auto-discovery process discovers the image file at the specified USB path, loads the software image, and reboots the switch to OS10 active image.
