After VxRail is deployed, add the witness host (required) and the ESXi services host (if used) to a new data center on the same vCenter used by the VxRail cluster. Also configure the vSAN network on the witness host and optionally configure the vMotion network on esx-svcs01. These items are covered in ESXi services and witness host configuration of the SmartFabric Services with Multisite vSAN Stretched Cluster Deployment Guide.
Note the following differences between the chapter above and this deployment before proceeding:
- On esx-svcs01, only configure the vMotion network if you want to migrate the existing DNS/NTP VM to the VxRail cluster using vMotion. Jumbo frames and NTP are optional on esx-svcs01.
- The chapter referenced above shows the vCenter Server VM on esx-svcs01. The only VM currently on esx-svcs01 is the DNS/NTP server (named win-dns in the referenced chapter).
- The witness host must be added to the vSAN network as shown in the chapter referenced above. The witness vSAN VMkernel MTU size must be the same as the VxRail hosts. Setting the MTU to 9000 is recommended for best performance. Enabling NTP is recommended on the witness host.
