  • Dell Networking SmartFabric Services (SFS) now supports multisite VxRail vSAN stretched clusters. A VxRail vSAN stretched cluster spans two sites and continues to function if a failure occurs at one site. The SFS multisite fabric interconnect feature makes it possible to build stretched clusters on SFS networks.

    SFS uses Border Gateway Protocol Ethernet Virtual Private Network (BGP EVPN) to stretch Layer 2 (L2) networks across a Layer 3 (L3) leaf-spine fabric. Using SFS multisite fabric interconnects, L2 networks can also be stretched between sites running separate SmartFabric instances. BGP EVPN allows for the scalability of L3 networks with the VM mobility of an L2 network. For example, a VM can be migrated from one rack to another, or from one site to another, without the need to change its IP address and gateway information.
