This section shows an onboarding example for the ESXi-01 interfaces that are connected to S5248F-Leaf1A and S5248F-Leaf1B.
When onboarding devices onto the fabric there are two options to determine the correct interfaces to choose when using the Import from Fabric option.
- SmartFabric services use the MAC address of the ESXi servers NIC for onboarding. This means that you can use either the SFS switch CLI or the ESXi Direct Console User Interface (DCUI) to get the MAC addresses of the interfaces on that server.
- From the CLI of the SFS switch, enter the show lldp neighbors command to get the MAC address for the correct server.
- From the CLI of the SFS switch, enter the show lldp neighbors command to get the MAC address for the correct server.
- Alternately, you can use the DCUI to get the details on the network adapters.
- Go to the specific server DCUI.
- Select the Configure Management Network option.
- Select Network Adapters.
Both of the options listed above show that the MAC address for interface 1 on ESXi01 is 00:0a:f7:b6:15:d0.Note: These steps are repeated to get the MAC address or the Ethernet port information for the other NICs MAC addresses.Once all the MAC addresses and interface details are gathered, the servers can be onboarded onto the Fabric.
- Using the SmartFabric Services UI Server Interface page, select the Import from Fabric option.
Note: The Import From Fabric option requires that the physical NIC supports LLDP. If the server NIC does not support LLDP, individual server interface profiles will need to be configured. For the configuration steps, see the Onboarding Isilon Nodes using OMNI section .
- Use the table below to onboard all the interfaces for ESXi01.
Table 8. Interface configuration information ESXi Server Switch Interface MAC address ESXi01 690ZZP2 Ethernet 1/1/1 00:0a:f7:b6:15:d0 68X00Q2 Ethernet 1/1/2 00:0a:f7:b6:15:d1 - Select the two interfaces from the Import from Fabric menu.
- Select the +Add to Server Profile option.
- Choose New Server Profile.
- Assign a unique server profile ID.
- Choose the Bonding type, the default is AutoDetect.
- Select the Associate option to associate the server profile to the specified interfaces.
Once the Server Profile has been assigned to all the interfaces, assign the required networks to all the ESXi-01 interfaces.
- Select the two interfaces.
- Select the +Add Networks option.
- From the drop-down, select the required tagged or untagged networks. In this example, the management network is tagged.
- Click Add to add the selected networks to the interfaces.
- Select both interfaces for ESXi-01.
Once the interfaces have a Server Profile and the proper network association assigned, you can complete the onboarding process.
- Select the Create option to onboard the ESXi servers.
Now that the servers have been onboarded, a server interface profile for each of the interfaces is visible.
