When OMNI is integrated with vCenter, for any port groups that are created in the virtual distributed switch (vDS), corresponding configurations are automatically applied to the SFS switches. This feature is enabled using the vmnic MAC address for the server interface ID when onboarding the server into SFS.
The initial configuration of the standard switch, VM Network on ESXi01, needs to be migrated to a vDS in vCenter. The steps for migrating VMkernels are outside the scope of this document. For more information, see the Migrate VMkernel Adapters to a vSphere Distributed Switch documentation.
The following figure shows the vDS configuration when the migration is complete.
Ensure that MTU (Bytes) is set to 9000 on the vDS, that the Discovery protocol Type is set to Link Layer Discovery Protocol, and that Operation is set to Both.
To create a port group for the OOB network, which OMNI uses to communicate with the SFS switches, perform the following steps. A separate physical connection is used for the OOB Management network. This connection gets added to the vDS as uplink 3 which is used exclusively by the OOB Mgmt port group.
