Architecture overview

  • This section provides an architecture overview and guidance on managing and scaling a VMware Horizon environment on VxRail. It gives an indicative overview of a VDI 3D modeling environment deployed on VxRail with persistent file storage on a Dell PowerScale device.

    Solution architecture

    The following figure shows the architecture that we designed and tested for this application. It shows the validated solution, including the network, compute and graphics, management, and storage layers. This architecture aligns with the VMware Horizon pod and block design. A pod is divided into multiple blocks and each block is made up of one or more vSphere clusters and a vCenter Server.

    Note: A real-world VDI and Omniverse topology might contain load-balancing, caching, and redundancy components, but these are optional and use-case dependent. They are not required for end-user testing.
