NSX-V—or NSX for vSphere—introduced all the benefits mentioned in the previous section for vSphere-based workloads. But there was the growing demand of managing networking and security in any enterprise coupled with the demand for cloud-native environments, leading VMware to evolve NSX-V and introduced NSX-T.
NSX-T enables organizations to design, deploy, and operate modern applications typically containing different infrastructure elements such as virtual machines (VMs), containers, and bare metal workloads.
NSX-T provides a consistent networking and security framework, no matter where workloads are deployed. Eligible platforms to provide the same NSX experience include:
NSX extends network and security policies across a range of heterogeneous environments and application frameworks, delivering benefits in data centers and public and private clouds, as well as to legacy and modern applications.
NSX-T is platform-independent. It runs on multiple hypervisors, bare metal servers, as a VM agent, or in a cloud environment. For example, it can provide network and security services to a mix of vCenters instances and Kernel-based Virtual Machines (KVM) environments.
