Select the NSX host overlay VLAN

    • The NSX host overlay VLAN must be configured on the adjacent top-of-rack switches connected to the VxRail nodes.
    • The NSX host overlay VLAN must be configured on the trunk ports connected to the VxRail nodes.

    If NSX network traffic is to be configured on a VxRail system-generated virtual distributed switch with shared uplinks, then the NSX host overlay VLAN must be configure on all the switch ports supporting that virtual distributed switch

    If a separate virtual distributed switch is to be deployed that is dedicated to NSX network traffic, then the NSX host overlay VLAN must be configured on those uplinks that are assigned to this virtual distributed switch

    • Depending on where the Layer 2/ Layer 3 boundary is in the supporting physical network, pass the NSX host overlay VLAN upstream through the uplinks on the adjacent top-of-rack switches to the spine switch layer.
    • Gateway IP addresses must be assigned to the switches at the Layer 2/ Layer 3 boundary to enable routing.
    • If DHCP is used to supply the IP addresses, configuring ‘dhcp helper’ is recommended on the NSX host overlay VLAN, if this feature is supported on the switches.
