Edge devices that serve manufacturing operations should have very low latencies to address predictive maintenance and operational issues in a timely manner. If the Dell edge solution is deployed in different layers to address the needs at plant, factory, and fleet levels, assign an appropriate set of compute, storage, and network resources to meet latency and throughput requirements.
Industrial Gateways have limited resources compared to VMs deployed on VxRail. Also, they may not have access to persistent resources locally, so while they can be used to run some local analytics, more complex and resource-intensive operations should be offloaded to systems running on VxRail. For such complex systems, consider leveraging more CPU cores, higher memory, and high-performance storage tiers for mission-critical deployments, as compared to midtier or low-priority workflows.
