Crowd flow and location data are important tools to have when coordinating large events efficiently and safely. VISuite provides real time crowd management alerts such as crowd density estimation, people counting, GIS coordinates, live heatmaps, and reports to ensure that safe crowding levels are maintained. Some terms that are important to understand when planning a deployment of Ipsotek for crowd management are:
- People counting
- The absolute number of people objects that are detect in an area of a camera view.
- Overcrowding
- The combination of people counting compared to a maximum number of people permitted in an area at one time. If the overcrowding limit is set to 25, an alert is triggered if the people count algorithm reports a number equal to or larger than 25.
- Crowd density
- A composite metric made up of a people counting metric combined with an area parameter reported as people per square meter.
Our testing for this solution used an overcrowding detection rule that uses a zone definition within a camera scene together with an overcrowded limit threshold. The algorithm is capable of the following two options to assess current occupancy:
- A max count of people in the zone
- An occupation percentage (such as 75%)
This rule's output is an event sent to the Incident response portal. The stadium team monitors this portal, and they can react to disperse the crowd in seconds as the event is occurring. This provides an enhanced level of safety to fans at a venue.
