Bus storage
The bus comes preconfigured with a 2TB disk for storing video. This local bus storage is important because the bus will be away from the depot for extended periods so it will need a local cache of video that it can offload when back at the depot and in range of the private 5G network.
Depot storage
The XR4000 cluster uses a vSAN to configure data stores that provide local disk mapping for all the VMs running on the cluster. We applied a RAID 1 storage policy to the vSAN storage to provide fault tolerance for all the applications writing to vSAN storage. This protection level consumes more disk space than other available RAID options but provides better file access performance.
vSAN disks were used for the operating system drives and all local file drives used by the EPIC iO DeepInsights VMs in the solution.
The depot is configured with a rugged XR4000 server that is virtualized and running vSAN.
Data center storage
Dell PowerScale is a better choice for storing and retaining large volumes of video data that can match the needs of the customer. The CV platform uses an A3000 PowerScale appliance for the video archive at the data center. The performance of the PowerScale storage system is an important design feature for processing requests for historical video data retrieval during analysis with users of CV applications.
The data is moved from the depot to the data center over an NFS share exposed from the data center to the depot. For best practices on how to implement NFS on PowerScale see Dell PowerScale: OneFS NFS Design Considerations and Best Practices.
