The Dell PowerEdge R7515 server is a single-socket 2U rack server designed to handle workloads such as software-defined storage, virtualization, and data analytics. This white paper demonstrates how these single-socket PowerEdge servers equipped with AMD EPYCTM Processors support virtualized workloads. Because conventional benchmarks do not capture the system behavior induced by multiple virtual machines or the ability of the servers to support multiple simultaneous workloads on the same server, we used the VMmark 3 benchmark developed by VMware. VMmark 3 is a multihost or cluster-level benchmark that provides precise and meaningful metrics that enable users to compare different platforms for virtualized environments. It measures the performance and scalability of the host and the storage components.
