Overview
Performance analysis and characterization (PAAC) testing on Dell VDI solutions is carried out using a carefully designed, holistic methodology that monitors both hardware resource utilization parameters and end-user experience (EUE) during load testing. This ensures the optimal combination of EUE and cost-per-user.
Two Azure Virtual Desktop VM configurations were tested and the results are detailed in the following sections. Each configuration was tested with four test runs, one ‘pipe clean’ and three subsequent test runs during which test data metrics were recorded and used to judge the performance of the Azure Stack HCI cluster.
Summary of findings
We carried out extensive performance testing of Azure Virtual Desktop on Azure Stack HCI and have provided results and guidance based on the PAAC testing carried out with the Login VSI Task Worker and Knowledge Worker workloads. The Intel Xeon processors that we used in our configuration provide performance, density, and agility for your VDI workloads.
We selected the memory and CPU configurations that provide optimal performance. You can change these configurations to meet your environmental requirements, but changing the memory and CPU configurations from those that have been validated in this document will change the user density per host. Work with your account team to size the solution and reserve resources for management tools when designing your VDI environment.
