SmartFabric Services (SFS) is included with Dell SmartFabric OS10. With SFS, customers can quickly and easily deploy and automate data center networking fabrics. SFS automatically builds an L3 leaf-spine fabric, which enables faster time to production for hyperconverged and private cloud environments while being fully interoperable with the existing data center infrastructure.
The SFS L3 fabric build process is as follows:
- Rack and cable the leaf and spine switches.
- Enable SFS from the OS10 command-line interface (CLI) using the smartfabric l3fabric enable role
[options]
command:- Specify the role (leaf or spine).
- Specify Virtual Link Trunking interconnect (VLTi) ports on leafs.
- The switches boot in SmartFabric mode.
- The switches discover each other using the Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP).
- The switches elect one of the leaf nodes as the SmartFabric leader.
- Leaf and spine connections are established using private IP addresses and external Border Gateway Protocol (eBGP).
- Leaf nodes are configured as hardware Virtual Tunnel End Points (VTEPs) for the infrastructure network overlay using BGP EVPN.
