Veeam Backup and Replication uses the same image-level backup for all data recovery operations. You can restore VMs, VM files and drives, application items, and individual guest OS files to the most recent state or to any available restore point. Restoration can be done with following two different methods
- Restore from backup
- Restore from replica
Restore from backup
This method performs restore from a backup file
- Login to the Veeam Backup and Replication console
- Click HOME
- Click Restore
- Click VMware vSphere
- Select Restore from backup
- Select the type of restore you want to perform. The following types are available:
- Entire VM restore: It restores the entire VM or its individual components i.e. virtual disks
- Instant VM recovery: Specify the details
- Machines: Select machines to be restored, you can add individual machine from backup files by clicking on Add and then select “From infrastructure” for virtual infrastructure or vCenter or “From backup” for the backup saved either locally or on DD
- Restore Mode: Specify whether the selected VMs should be restored to the original locations or to a new location or with different settings
- Secure Restore: Scan the selected backup from malware
- Reason: Specify the reason for performing this restore operation and click next
- Summary: You can copy this configuration information for future reference and click Finish
Restore from Replica
- Login to the Veeam Backup and Replication console
- Click HOME
- Click Restore
- Click VMware vSphere
- Select Restore from replica and select the type of restore you want to perform
- Select Entire Replica to perform failover or failback operations on replica VM and choose the applicable option
- Select Planned failover to a replica. It performs planned failover to a replica, preventing any data loss.
- Specify the VM by clicking on Add VM and select “from replicas”
- Click Job name and select from the list
- Click Finish
It will take a few moments to complete the process. Once completed, the replicas will be in active state under replica tab.
- To restore it to target (vCenter), right click the VM name
- Click Failback to production and choose replicas you want to failback
- Choose target location and click Finish
