Validate with OME-M
Validation of quad-port NICs can be done on OME-M by performing the following steps:
- Access the OME-M Console.
- Go to Devices > Compute.
- Select a compute sled. Choose Hardware and then Network Devices. The following figure shows the quad-port NIC in an OME-M Console.
- Expand one of the ports to see details about Product name, Link status, and MAC Address. The Topology view on the Home Screen of the OME-M console shows connections for the quad-port NIC. To access this, perform the following steps:
- Access the OME-M Console.
- Go to Home > View Topology. This will show connections between MX7116n FEMs and MX9116n FSEs, similar to Two-chassis topology with quad-port NICs – dual fabric. Note: Make sure that the compute sled iDRAC is at the latest version to ensure an accurate Group Topology view.
- Once connections are established and validated, access the Port Information on I/O Modules by performing the following steps:
- Access the OME-M Console.
- Go to Devices > I/O Modules.
- Select an IOM > Hardware > Port Information. This shows two port groups each with eight internal ports.
For example, if Compute Sled 1 is configured with a dual-port NIC, then only one port group with eight ports can be seen on OME-M. These internal ports are numbered 1/71/1 through 1/71/8. For Compute Sled 1 with a dual-port NIC, port 1/71/1 is Up.
If Compute Sled 1 is configured with a quad-port NIC, then two port groups each with eight ports can be seen on OME-M. These internal ports are numbered 1/71/1 through 1/71/16. For Compute Sled 1 with a quad-port NIC, ports 1/71/1 and 1/71/9 are Up.
Validation through switch CLI
The show discovered-expanders command is only available on the MX9116n FSE and displays all connected MX7116n FEMs, its service tag attached to the MX9116n FSEs, and the associated port group and virtual slot. With a quad-port NIC, each MX7116n FEM creates two connections with the MX9116n FSE on port group 1/1/1 and port group 1/1/7, as shown in the following.
