The OOB management network is an isolated network for remote management of hardware. This network includes the VxRail nodes and all switches in this example. It can also include other devices such as servers, storage arrays, and rack power distribution units using their dedicated management ports.
This network should be physically separate from the leaf and spine fabric. For OOB management, Dell Technologies recommends one PowerSwitch N3248TE-ON per rack.
The following figure shows an example OOB management topology for this deployment:
The 1000BASE-T ports on each N3248TE-ON are connected downstream to hardware management ports on each device in the rack. These ports include dedicated management port on each PowerSwitch (named Management 0 in SONiC) and the iDRAC port on each VxRail node. Dedicated management ports on other devices in the rack can also be connected to this network.
Four 10 GbE SFP+ ports are available on each N3248TE-ON for use as uplinks to the OOB management network core.
