The smallest unit of allocation within an APEX Block Storage environment is a volume. Volumes start at 8GB and can be as large as 1PB. They are the logical container of blocks, physically located on many independent disks that a host will format with a file system. All volumes are separate and independent systems, with Dell APEX Block system coordinating their storage using standard TCP/IP networking.
After installing SDCs, volumes can now be added using the APEX Block Storage Manager.
When defining a volume name, be sure that it:
Dell recommends that you give each volume a meaningful name that reflects its operational role.
Using the APEX Block Storage Manager, you are now ready to map the volumes to the SDC. Mapping exposes a volume to the specified SDC, effectively creating a block device on the SDC.
