This section describes how to setup the backup infrastructure before performing data protection and disaster recovery tasks with Veeam Backup and Replication. The backup infrastructure may vary depending upon customer environment and strategies. A typical backup infrastructure consists of following components:
- Backup Server: the server on which Veeam Backup and Replication is installed
- Infrastructure Servers: virtual hosts used as sources and targets for backup, replication and restore
- Backup Proxies: The backup proxy role is assigned to Veeam backups server and act as Data Mover component
- Repositories: Locations where backups, replicas and VM copies are stored
Add Virtual Infrastructure
- Login to the Veeam Backup and Replication console
- Select INVENTORY
- Select Virtual Infrastructure
- Click ADD SERVER dialog box
- Select VMware vSphere
- Select vSphere and enter the details
- Name: Specify DNS name or IP address of VMware Server
- Credentials: Select server’s administrator’s credentials from the drop down. If required, specify additional connection settings including web-service port number.
- The vCenter is added. You can verify under Virtual Infrastructure > VMware vSphere > vCenter Servers > vCenter
