  • Dell offers comprehensive solutions that are designed to run AI and VDI workloads on your hardware and meet your organization's needs. This design guide provides:

    • A common infrastructure for VDI and AI—The VDI Solutions team designed a solution stack based on a density-optimized configuration with Dell vSAN Ready Nodes, NVIDIA L40 GPUs, Dell PowerSwitch networking, VMware vSAN, VMware vSphere, and VMware Horizon, and NVIDIA RTX Virtual Workstation (vWS) software to support the combination of VDI and AI activities.
    • Optimal sizing for VDI—The VDI Solutions team sized the VDI environment based on the vGPU profile selected on the NVIDIA L40 GPU. The team then used Login Enterprise testing with a customized healthcare workload and determined user experience scoring to assess the quality of the end-user experience.
    • A customized Login Enterprise workload for healthcare—The VDI Solutions team customized a Login Enterprise Knowledge Worker workload by extending it with viewing activities based on clinical images from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) database, using MicroDicom as the image viewing software.
    • AI frameworks—The VDI Solutions team designed and implemented AI frameworks based on standard toolsets, including TensorFlow, in collaboration with the Dell AI Solutions team.
    • AI workloads (training and inferencing [validation])—The VDI Solutions team performed AI deep-learning activities such as training and inferencing, to validate the AI and deep-learning capabilities of the environment.
    • Predictable costs, performance, and scalability to support a growing workforce—Deploying from a data center can reduce the cost of deploying applications and desktops.
    • Rapid deployments—Dell Validated Designs for VDI offer rapid automated deployment at the infrastructure layer through Dell Technologies Services.
    • Rapid scaling to serve enterprises of any size—Scale rapidly with workload-specific configurations per platform. The solution is scalable up to 64 nodes per cluster, supporting thousands of virtual machines (VMs). Continue scaling with pod architecture and by combining multiple clusters.
    • Dell Technologies support—Dell Validated Designs for VDI are engineered and tested specifically for VDI and related applications. Deployment services can provide installation of this turnkey VDI appliance to ensure a rapid deployment with linear and predictable scalability. Dell Technologies offers single-company-support models for Horizon and vSAN-based solutions.
    • Improved user experience (UX)—NVIDIA virtual GPU technology brings the power of NVIDIA GPUs to virtual desktops, apps, and workstations, accelerating graphics and compute. These benefits enable virtualized workspaces to perform just like physical PCs, meaning users working from home offices or anywhere can have a consistently high-quality user experience.
