Overview
We have carried out extensive performance testing and provided results and guidance based on the PAAC testing carried out with the Login VSI Task worker and Knowledge Worker workloads. The 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors in our Density Optimized configuration provide performance, density, and agility for your VDI workloads.
The VxRail configurations are optimized for VDI. We selected the memory and CPU configurations that provide optimal performance. You can change these configurations to meet your environmental requirements, but changing the memory and CPU configurations from those that have been validated in this document will affect the user density per host. Work with your account team to size the solution and reserve resources for management tools when designing your VDI environment.
All Dell Technologies Validated Designs for VDI are configured to produce similar results. You can be sure that the vSAN-based appliances you choose have been designed and optimized for your organization's needs.
User density recommendations
The recommended user densities in the following table were achieved during the performance testing on VxRail. We followed the VMware best practices of FTT = 1 and maintained a reserved capacity of at least 30 percent. Login VSI Task Worker was tested with Server 2019 and Microsoft Office 2019 while all other configurations were tested with Microsoft Windows 10, 64-bit, and Microsoft 365 with Office Apps. We implemented all mitigations to patch known vulnerabilities at the hardware, firmware, and software levels to ensure an improved performance impact, which is reflected in the achieved user densities.
Server configuration | Workload | Windows version | User density |
Density Optimized | Login VSI Task Worker | Server 2019, 1809 | 370 |
Density Optimized | Login VSI Knowledge Worker | Windows 10, 21h1 | 240 |
