The goal of this SQL Server solution is to demonstrate the advantages of using SQL Server 2019 Big Data Clusters with PolyBase to create a data sphere that easily supports petabytes of data and the capability to seamlessly access other data sources to improve analytics reporting.
A PowerFlex software-defined platform hosted our lab environment. We chose the PowerFlex system because it supports both two-layer and hyperconverged modes. The lab configuration used hyperconverged mode, which offered substantial consolidation savings. With hyperconverged mode, we can use CPU, memory, and storage resources for our containers on our nodes; thus, less hardware is required. Another key reason for using the PowerFlex rack was its integration with Kubernetes. As the use case develops, we show how the CSI plug-in for PowerFlex systems provides an additional level of storage automation through Kubernetes.
The use case in this white paper describes how to manage and mine big data with the assistance of innovative container technologies. It demonstrates how you can use your company’s data sphere for improved analytics on an agile platform that is designed for flexibility, automation, and orchestration.
