The Retention Lock feature provides immutable file locking and secured data retention for customers to meet both corporate governance and compliance. There are two types of Retention Locks in Dell data protection products:
Retention Lock Governance (RLG) can be used to define retention policies on data that is to be retained for a specific period to meet internal IT governance policies.
RLG allows the files to be committed for a specific period during which the content cannot be changed. It provides flexible retention policies such as extending the Retention Lock period and reverting a file to an unlocked state.
Retention Lock Compliance (RLC) is stricter than governance. RLC maintains the files in noneditable and nonerasable format. It prevents files from being modified even after the retention period is over. Only the delete option is available after the retention period.
