  • Overview

    Dell Technologies, NVIDIA, and VMware are offering enterprises a new way forward with the launch of a new solution to democratize and unlock AI across the enterprise. This new Dell Technologies Validated Design for AI is jointly engineered and validated to help organizations capitalize on the benefits of virtualization for AI workloads. The Dell Validated Design for Virtualizing GPUs for AI with VMware and NVIDIA includes the latest version of VMware vSphere and VMware Tanzu combined with the NVIDIA AI Enterprise suite on Dell PowerEdge servers. The design also includes Dell PowerScale storage, which provides the necessary analytics performance and concurrency at scale to consistently feed the most data hungry AI algorithms.

    Document purpose

    This design guide presents guidelines for implementing an AI platform at enterprise scale based on the results produced in the Dell Technologies HPC & AI Innovation Lab. Our lab setup included servers, storage, and networking from Dell Technologies, virtualization software from VMware, and acceleration, networking, and software from NVIDIA configured with the combined best practices from all three partners. This design guide describes the recommended configurations, network topologies, deployment guidelines, and observed performance.

    Using the information in this design guide, experienced VMware professionals can use their existing skills to deploy and operate a full-featured platform to support advanced AI use cases quickly.
