Tuning nodes for optimal performance requires various configuration mechanisms, making it difficult to iterate and empirically determine optimal tuning parameters. The Performance Addon Operator (PAO) in OpenShift Container Platform 4.6 makes iteration and configuration changes simpler by providing the PerformanceProfile API for performance configuration of all or some compute nodes through a single interface.
The PAO gives customers the ability to configure “huge pages,” enable the real-time kernel, and allocate exclusive CPUs for workloads. However, the PAO can only be used to provision low-latency features on bare-metal compute nodes running Red Hat CoreOS. For more information, see the Red Hat document Performance Addon Operator for low latency nodes.
