Data ingest integration using Telit deviceWISE to SDP

  • This DVD solution provides data publishing to Telit deviceWISE Edge Asset and Enterprise Gateways for limited retention, and it can simultaneously use an SDP MQTT connector to publish the data from deviceWISE Edge gateways to SDP for long-term retention. Perform the following tasks to configure the data ingest.


    Prepare the Telit deviceWISE gateways for MQTT connection

    This task is required to prepare Telit gateways for MQTT ingest from industrial devices to SDP.

    1. On a deviceWISE Edge Asset or Enterprise Gateway, update the hosts file with SDP MQTT endpoint information. Reboot the hosts as required to recognize new entries. You can also ping the IP address to ensure connectivity. SDP uses TLS with the default MQTT broker port number of 8883, so another way to ensure connectivity is to check the telnet command.

    2. To gather the SDP certificate and upload it to a deviceWISE gateway using Workbench, select Staging Browser and add the file to the appropriate directory on that browser.

    3. Copy the file to the system.

    4. Copy the Pravega MQTT broker from the SDP UI to be entered into the pravega-mqtt-broker text field.

    Configure the device MQTT connection

    This task is required to create the MQTT connection for the device. Telit deviceWISE Edge products do not have an MQTT broker, so SDP MQTT broker is used to configure the device MQTT connection for the data ingest into SDP. There is no local database required, as there is no need to have store and forward capability with this connection. All the data from the devices is persisted on SDP. The steps described in this section apply to VMs based on Docker container-based deviceWISE deployments.
    1. MQTT, OPC UA, and other types of device connections require installation of separate packages. Install them as shown in the following figure.

    2. On Telit deviceWISE Workbench, create a new device to start configuration of the MQTT connection.

    3. Configure the MQTT connection for the device by entering various values. Make sure to select the appropriate MQTT TLS connection type, SDP Pravega MQTT broker IP address, SDP certificate file, MQTT port number, and Pravega MQTT broker username and secret key. Click Validate to ensure that the connection is properly set up, then Save the configuration.

    4. To validate the parameters and establish a connection to the device, click Validate. If the parameters are not correct, or if a connection cannot be established, an appropriate reason is displayed.
    5. Use the Save button to save the definition of the device. The device appears in the list of devices for the node, in a Stopped state.
    6. From the Devices tab, select the device. Right-click to display its pop-up menu, and then select Start. Alternatively, when the device row is selected, select the Start button at the bottom of the panel.
