The minimum hardware specifications per model for the Dell Validated Design for Manufacturing Edge are noted in this section. There are several considerations when selecting the servers. The minimum configuration for various models for this DVD is provided for implementation planning. Higher capacity components are available for each product family.
This DVD supports both Dell VxRail hyperconverged servers and Dell PowerEdge servers as well as Dell Edge Gateways. A hyperconverged infrastructure includes the Dell VxRail E660F and P670F/V670F series of servers. Dell PowerEdge models supported include the XR11, XR12, XR4000, R650, and R750 model servers. Support for Dell Edge Gateways includes the EGW-3200 and EGW-5200 models, with use-case specific use of the OptiPlex Micro in scenarios defined below.
Note: The E660F or P670F hyperconverged server platform Intel Xeon processor class, storage, and memory capacity combinations vary depending on the workload classification and application consolidation needs within a small to large customer manufacturing environment. They can include GPUs as required by certain workloads and ISV selections.
Note: XR11 and XR12 model servers are utilized in both the small and medium configurations. For the medium-size server configurations, each server model has a higher class Intel Xeon processor, which includes additional cores as well as a greater storage and memory capacity and optional GPUs where required, than the XR11 and XR12 model servers utilized in the small-sized server configuration.
Note: Intel Xeon processor class, storage, and memory capacity combinations vary for the Dell PowerEdge R650 or R750 servers depending on the workload size classification selected for the customer manufacturing environment. They can include GPUs as required by certain workloads and ISV selections.
Note: XR4000 model servers are utilized in small, medium, and large configurations. They can be used in situations where EGW-3200 or EGW-5200 gateways might otherwise be used, where there are larger CPU and memory requirements, GPUs are required, or there are High Availability requirements. The XR4000 platform Intel Xeon processor class, storage, and memory capacity combinations vary depending on the workload classification and application consolidation needs within a small to large customer manufacturing environment. The XR4000 platform can include GPUs as required by certain workloads and ISV selections.
Note: Dell Edge Gateways, models EGW-3200 and EGW-5200, are utilized in various configurations. They are intended to be deployed at the far edge, where required, for processing near the point of data creation. Dell Edge Gateways are currently available with a choice of either Windows or Ubuntu for an operating system. A separate table for gateways is listed below.
Note: Dell OptiPlex Micro model PCs may also be deployed, at the far edge, for processing near the point of data creation. An OptiPlex PC can be used for hosting software at the far edge when a ruggedized server or Gateway is not required. Dell OptiPlex Micro PCs also currently offer a broader range of OS support than Dell Edge Gateways, which make them preferable for some ISV components, for example, Claroty CTD Sensor or SRA Full Site.
