The Dell Validated Design for Government High Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics is a basis for workload-optimized rack-level systems based on building block options for compute, networking, and storage to provide flexibility in design architecture. Given the convergence of HPC, AI and data analytics workloads, unified architectures based on the combination of scalable rack units are desirable to optimize performance on both compute centric workloads and data centric workloads. Alternatively, architectures optimized for traditional HPC compute centric workloads, such as modeling and simulation, or architectures optimized for data intensive workloads are desirable to support customers who prefer dedicated systems. This white paper focuses on architectures optimized for traditional HPC compute centric workloads. A baseline design serves as a starting point for custom designs to meet specific customer requirements. Performance benchmarking was performed by Dell and is documented. A future release of this white paper will also include architectures optimized for data intensive workloads and for unified architectures to optimize performance on both compute centric workloads and data centric workloads.
