The Dell Telecom Infrastructure Automation Suite (Automation Suite) Backup function uses Velero which runs in the RKE2 cluster primary node. Velero is an open-source tool that provides backup and restore of the Kubernetes cluster resources. Velero takes snapshots of all Kubernetes resources as a single unit and supports both on-demand and scheduled backups. Backup files are valid for up to 30 days.
To create and restore a backup, you must complete the following steps:
- Create the backup location using either the Automation Suite web user interface or the API. The backup must be stored in AWS S3-compatible storage. For example, MinIO. For more information about creating a backup using the web user interface, see Create a backup location. For more information about creating a backup location in the API, see the Developer portal.
- Create an on-demand backup of your existing Automation Suite cluster. For more information about creating an on-demand backup, see Create a scheduled backup.
- To check on the progress of the backup creation, you can view the Backups page in the web user interface. For more information about viewing backups in the web user interface, see View backups.
- To restore your cluster, see Restore Dell Telecom Infrastructure Automation Suite.
Limitations
Observe the following:
- Backups are saved to a user-specified backup location or a default backup location.
- By default, backup files expire one month after creation. The retention period can be configured in the
Backup Retention Period
field in the Automation Suite web user-interface during the backup creation.
