Home > Data Protection > PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance > Dell PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance: Protection for Existing and Modern Workloads > Protection policy options for Oracle database
Using the Data Manager Appliance UI, we can add a protection policy to protect the Oracle databases.
Click Set Credentials to specify new credentials or select existing credentials from the list.
Note: Policy-level credentials are mandatory. Credentials that you set at the asset level and host level take precedence over the credentials that you set at the protection policy level. Asset-level credentials have the highest precedence.
Self-service protection means that DBAs schedule the backups, but the Data Manager Appliance discovers and manages the life cycle of the copies.
Data Manager Appliance supports the Oracle Incremental Merge backups and restores on linux for both stand-alone and Oracle RAC systems . Oracle Incremental Merge backups enable you to create a full image copy backup of a database every day for the cost of an incremental backup, resulting in faster backups with better deduplication and faster restores. Data Manager Appliance version 5.14.0.0 and later supports the Data Guard federated mode with the Oracle Incremental Merge operations.
Data Manager Appliance supports Active-Passive Oracle RAC configurations to dynamically protect an Active node at any point in time.
Data Manager Appliance version 5.15.0.0 and later, provides the ability for backup administrators and application owners to specify multi-streaming as an option. This can be configured at either the protection policy or asset level, resulting in improved performance. This enhancement is supported for all types of Oracle database implementations and all types of RAC clusters.
Data Manager Appliance version 5.16.0.0 and later, Data Manager Appliance provides an option to disable the DD Boost write compression for Oracle Application Direct backups with DDOS 8.0 or later. You can disable the DD Boost write compression for backups through a Data Manager Appliance UI option or an RMAN command option.
